15 Golden Retriever Facts So Interesting You’ll Say, “OMG!”

The Golden Retriever originally came from Great Britain, where hunting feathered games was very popular. By the 1800s, advances in the gun industry suddenly made it possible to hit and kill birds from even greater distances, necessitating a more focused and reliable retriever. Therefore, the aim was to breed a dog that could bring prey back to the hunter over longer distances both on land and in the water.

#1 Baron Dudley Majoribanks made this mission his life’s goal when he allegedly crossed the now-extinct Russian Tracker Dog with English Setters and Tweed Water Spaniels — another breed of dog that has also now entirely disappeared. The result is the Golden Retriever, which was registered as a separate breed by the British Kennel Club in the 20th century.

#2 To this day, he still acts as the stud book keeper for the Golden Retriever. Today, it’s one of the most popular dog breeds of all time, thanks in part to numerous appearances in television commercials and feature films.

#3 The Golden Retriever is very obedient, gentle, and trusting, making them an ideal partner for first-time owners. He is known for his extremely sociable nature and gets along well with strangers, animals and children.
