This happily curly beauty is particularly found in the French-speaking countries around France and Belgium – but originally he came from Spain. The urbane “miracle wow” with the snow-white fur enchants with its charm and friendly nature.

#1 The exact origin of the Bichon Frisé is disputed – but the fact is that the small white snowballs were brought to Europe by Spanish sailors around 1500, where they settled particularly on the Canary Islands.

#2 The name of the dog breed probably goes back to very similar water dogs, which were called “Barbichon” in French, later this name was shortened to “Bichon”.

Because of this and because of the curly fur, a relationship with the poodle or water spaniel breeds is obvious.

#3 The original working dog, which was often carried on ships, came from Italy to France, where the aristocratic upper class in particular were enthusiastic about the bright bundles of fur.
