Bichon Frise – Curly Lap Dog

The Bichon Frise belongs to the Bichon group. This breed originally came to France from the Canary Islands around 1500, which is why the Bichon Frise was originally called the Tenerife.

However, as the small graceful dogs became more popular in royal households, they were styled and decorated with bows, they were given the new name Bichon with the suffix Frisé (which translates as “curly” ).

General

  • FCI Group 9: Companion Dogs and Companion Dogs
  • Section 1: Bichons and related breeds / 1.1 Bichons
  • Size: Maximum 30 centimeters
  • Colors: white

Keeping Recommendations: The Bichon Frise can be kept in an apartment, but like any other dog breed, it needs regular exercise. It is easy to train and is therefore also suitable for people with little experience with dogs. It also loves children and therefore can be considered as a family dog.

Activity

While this breed is one of the companion dogs, and you might think of a pouch or pompous mini-steps, Bichons can be quite assertive on walks. You don’t need to go on long trips with small dogs, and you don’t need to do extra sports to keep your curly-coated four-legged friends happy, but like any dog, they do need plenty of exercise.

Features of the Breed

The Bichon Frise is generally a very happy and lively dog. It loves to play and mess around but also loves to be pampered by its owners. Unlike other four-legged friends of its size, this companion dog is not considered a “barker”, although it is alert and will let its family know if it sees anything strange.

Recommendations

The Bichon Frise is 25 to 30 centimeters in size and has a shedding coat suitable for keeping in apartments. But of course, even a small dog needs space and shelter to relax.

Due to the friendly and patient nature of these pedigreed dogs, as well as the fact that they are quick to learn new things, so they are considered easier to train, the Bichon Frise is also suitable for inexperienced dog owners. Of course, you should always learn more about the breed and its requirements.
