18 Interesting Facts About Miniature Poodles You Probably Didn’t Know

#13 The frizzy coat, which is either curled or laced, is particularly characteristic of all poodle species.

#14 The coat itself is also fine, woolly and dense and therefore requires special care: Since toy poodles do not shed, they must be clipped regularly and brushed several times a week to prevent the coat from becoming matted.

#15 The poodle’s special clipping goes back to their past as hunting dogs, who needed the fur around their chests to protect their lungs from the cold, but had their legs shaved for improved legroom.

This type of shearing, also called lion shearing, was popular with judges at dog shows and soon became fashionable.
