#4 At the end of the 19th century systematic poodle breeding began and the poodle eventually separated from the barbet altogether.
It was particularly important to the breeders to preserve the single-colored, frizzy fur coat. Over the decades, the size variations have expanded from two (standard or king poodles and miniature poodles) to four (miniature poodles and toy poodles).
#5 The original three permitted coat colors black, white and brown were supplemented by the color variants silver, apricot, red and finally with the two-tone variants harlequin and black and tan.
#6 Many celebrities from art and culture were enthusiastic poodle owners, such as the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer and the writer Thomas Mann, others dedicated works to them, such as Ludwig van Beethoven’s composition “Elegy to the Death of a Poodle”.
An Austrian magazine for methodical poetry also bears the title “Der Pudel”.
