12 Things to Know About Collies

#7 Is the collie a family dog?

If the collie is mentally and physically fully utilized according to its needs, it turns out to be a loyal, faithful and loving family dog, which as a herding dog always keeps an eye on its pack.

#8 Do Shelties smell?

Generally no. They keep themselves quite clean and their outer fur repels mud and dirt nicely (enough). Unless your pup rolls in something rotten (like a dead fish) they will maintain a neutral smell.

#9 Are Shelties violent?

Shelties are leery of strangers. As a result, they are good watchdogs, likely to greet outsiders with lots of barking. They also bark when excited. While not usually aggressive, some Shelties may nip at people they do not know, whether the strangers are adults or children.
