The Maltese is a happy and affectionate little dog. He grows a tiny bit taller than a Chihuahua at 8-10 inches and also a little heavier at 7-10 pounds.
Grooming of the Maltese is considered to be particularly demanding and many owners therefore regularly visit the dog salon with their four-legged friends. The Chihuahua (especially the short-haired variety), on the other hand, is extremely easy to care for.
A Maltese is very good-natured, affectionate, and docile and therefore not as stubborn as a Chi. For beginners, the Maltese would probably be a better choice.
Please do not decide based on appearance alone, but familiarize yourself with the requirements, special features, and character of the respective breed. Are there any special problems (sensitive stomach, hunting instinct, behavior) or diseases within the breed? Which breed suits you and your lifestyle better?
