How Long Can a Chihuahua Puppy Go for a Walk?

As a puppy, the Chihuahua does not need proper walks. Rather, the small excursions outside the door are there to teach the puppy how to be housebroken and to get him used to noises, environmental stimuli, people, animals, vehicles, street noise as well as various smells and surfaces. So it’s more about exploring and of course walking on a leash.

A rule of thumb:

Walk 5 minutes per month of age. So a 3-month-old pup should not run more than 15 minutes at a time, a 4-month-old Chi no more than 20 minutes, and so on.

Don’t go for a brisk walk, just let the puppy sniff around and discover everything. You don’t have to go far for that. Sometimes you can just stand in the park or on the dirt road and let the pup explore at his own pace. Then the Chihuahua can accompany you for a longer period of time. Sufficient breaks were provided. Watch for signs of fatigue.
