The Goldendoodle is a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. The crossbreeding of these two dog breeds began in the late 1990s in the United States: the reason for this was that Poodles are said to have coats that are especially safe for allergy sufferers. They wanted to use this property when breeding new breeds. This is how not only the Goldendoodle appeared, but also the Labradoodle (Labrador and Poodle mix) and Cockerpoo (Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mix).
However, it has not yet been proven that the wool of these crosses contains fewer allergens than the wool of other breeds. In addition, allergens are found not only in wool but also in dander and saliva. In the first few years, the cute mix spread mainly to North America and Australia. Today it is increasingly seen in Europe. The Goldendoodle is not an FCI-recognized dog breed.
Goldendoodle Personality
The affectionate Goldendoodle combines the best features of a Retriever and a Poodle in one dog: he is relaxed, intelligent, friendly, and ready to learn. He is considered to be very fond of children and is an ideal family dog. A cheerful companion usually gets along well with other dogs, loves to play with them, and always inspires the owners with his quick wits. He needs a lot of attention, loves to cuddle.
Training & Keeping
An obedient dog needs to move a lot: he loves walks in nature, loves to jump into the water, but also needs mental exercise. Whirlwind wants to learn a lot and work alongside his human. Dog sports such as agility or dog dancing are just right for this bundle of energy.
Goldendoodles are usually easy to train because they want to please their owner. Nevertheless, one should be consistent in education from the very beginning and not be softened by the innocent look of the dog. Goldendoodles are also suitable for city apartments if their owners take them for walks a lot. Because of their high social skills, sensitive four-legged friends are often trained to be school and therapy dogs.
Caring for Your Goldendoodle
Goldendoodles are very easy to care for: since their fur hardly sheds, the effort is limited. Regular brushing and trimming are usually sufficient.

The Goldendoodle is known to have fewer problems with hereditary diseases than other purebred dogs. However, there is some tendency to cataracts and hip dysplasia. Therefore, when buying a puppy, you should take care of responsible breeding.
