This proud dog has been bred in Tibetan monasteries for centuries. Dog lovers all over the world now appreciate him. This is not only due to his extraordinary appearance but also to his strong character – because there is a big personality in every little Lhasa Apso.
#1 Behind the breed is a millennia-old tradition of Tibetan temple dogs: Visually, the Lhasa Apso is said to be reminiscent of the lion of Buddha and was bred in Tibet’s monasteries and among the nobility.
#2 Lhasa is the capital of Tibet, but the roots of the breed cannot be exclusively located here.
In monasteries in mountain regions and in palaces, he was not only an exclusive companion dog but could also fulfill the duties of a guard dog. Because the little four-legged friend can make itself heard by barking loudly.
#3 In ancient Tibet, the Lhasa Apso was never sold, only given to good friends and as a sign of great honor for good luck. In his homeland, some believed that monks who had not followed the monastic rules exactly would be reborn as a small lion dog.
From around 1920, the first representatives of this extraordinary breed came to Europe and quickly found numerous followers here.
