12 Hot Weather Tips to Keep Your Poodle Safe this Summer

#7 Paws

Have you ever walked a tarmac road with bare feet in the heat? Or hot sand?

If so, you probably understand why your poodle's paws need to be protected when it's hot. Of course, dog paws are not as sensitive as our bare feet. Nevertheless, dog paws can also be injured when walking on hot floors for a long time.

You can prevent damage by protecting your poodle's paws ahead of time with paw wax. You can buy these from an online shop such as Amazon.

Applying paw wax is easy. Take your dog's paw and spread some paw wax evenly over the paw. Like our shoes, this wax protects us from the hot pavement. And it also cares for your dog's paws.

#8 Nose

Your poodle's nose can become damaged in the hot sun.

Whenever it gets very hot outside, moisture evaporates. We know that from puddles on the street or moisture in the garden. Just as our lips crack in the heat after we lick them or get them wet, your dog's nose will "crack" in the heat.

Since there is moisture on your poodle's nose, the heat can dry it out. During the summer months, you will often see small spots on the dog's nose.

Similar to paw wax for the feet, you can use nose butter* for your poodle's nose.

To apply the nose butter, simply dab the product onto your dog's nose with your fingers. This keeps your poodle's nose moist even when the sun soaks up its natural moisture.

#9 Skin

As I mentioned earlier, poodles have quite a thin coat with no undercoat. Without the protection of the undercoat, your poodle's skin is extremely sensitive to the sun and heat.

So make sure that your dog spends most of its time in the shade. Even if you leave the dog in your garden during the day, there should be enough shade there.

Tips for caring for your poodle in the heat. Aside from the above products that are available to protect your poodle from heat, there are a few other things you can do to help your poodle in the sun.
