Parasites: What You Should Know

Parasites are mostly small creatures that feed on large creatures. So they take advantage of these large creatures. Parasites are also known as parasites. They are often counted among the pests. The large creature is called a “host”, it can also be a human being.

In some cases, the host doesn’t even notice their parasite. However, there are also parasites that transmit diseases. This is most common in ticks. They can trigger a certain type of meningitis that can be very dangerous.

What types of parasites are there?

Parasites can be animals and plants, but also bacteria and fungi. Parasites can live inside the host or outside. You can kill him or not. So there are many ways to classify parasites into different groups. Very few are related to each other.

A well-known parasite outside the host is the flea. They live on the skin of humans or animals and bite them so they can suck their blood. That’s what they feed on. Such parasites mostly let their host live. They’re annoying, but harmless as long as they don’t transmit diseases.

An example of a parasite that lives in its host is the parasitic wasp. She lays her eggs in caterpillars. The wasp larva then slowly eats the caterpillar from the inside. Finally, when the caterpillar dies, the larva is already sufficiently developed to emerge from the caterpillar and pupate.

There are parasites that can only live on a single host. Some pigeons have such tiny things in their intestines. However, most parasites can change their host, although there are not infinitely many possibilities. Dog fleas can also infest humans, for example, but this is rare.
