#17 In the 50s. In the 20th century, the AKC allowed breeding between Pit Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Terriers. Thus, the fighting breed was half recognized.

Currently, it is not prohibited from breeding but is registered only under the American Staffordshire Terrier.
