#4 Epilepsy
A common cause of seizures in all Poodle variations is idopathic epilepsy. It's often inherited and can cause mild or severe seizures, which can make the dog appear to be acting abnormally (pacing around as if being chased, staggering, or hiding), collapsing, stiff limbs, and loss of consciousness.
Seizures are difficult to watch, but the long-term prognosis for dogs with this condition is very good. It is important to know that seizures can also be triggered by other diseases, such as metabolic disorders, infectious diseases affecting the brain, tumors, poisoning, serious head injuries, and others. So, should your poodle have seizures, you need to take your dog to the vet to get an accurate diagnosis and get the right treatment.
#5 Hip dysplasia
When the hip socket is poorly formed, or the ligaments are loose enough to allow the ball of the thigh bone (femur) to partially slide out of the hip socket, this is called dysplasia. Canine hip dysplasia is an inherited condition in which environmental factors sometimes play a major role in its development.
Over time, the joint degenerates, which can lead to arthritis and pain, even paralysis. Obesity, excessive or prolonged premature exercise, a rapid growth rate, and high-calorie or nutritional diets can contribute to the development of canine hip dysplasia. Veterinary treatments include nutritional supplements, medication, and, in some cases, surgery.
#6 Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism results from an underactive thyroid gland. It is believed to lead to epilepsy, hair loss, obesity, lethargy, hyperpigmentation, pyoderma, and other skin diseases.
