This is a strong, sturdily built, massive square-shaped dog. They are both strong and agile, with fast and powerful strides. Their coat is coarse, sinewy, and thick, with a soft undercoat. Their characteristic sideburns, mustache, and eyebrows add to their often wary, energetic expression.

The standard schnauzer needs daily exercise, whether it’s a long walk on a leash, an energetic game, or a hike. Their coats need to be brushed twice a week and sometimes have to be groomed professionally.
