#1 The Boston Terrier originated in the Northeast of the United States towards the end of the 19th century. In the meantime, the lively dog breed with its special nature has also won numerous fans in Europe and worldwide.

#2 Dog fights for public entertainment have only been banned in the USA since 1826. This ban came even later in Canada.

However, illegal dog fighting continued to occur in many backyards in Boston. The stakes for this were high. Around 1870 agile terriers were crossed with powerful bulldogs to increase the chances of victory. The newly created dog breed was initially called the American Bull Terrier.
