Red Eyes In Pets

Red eyes in our pets are always a symptom of a variety of different eye diseases of varying degrees of severity.

To help your veterinarian assess urgency, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are both eyes affected or just one?
  • Is the otherwise almost white dermis also reddened? (it is best to pull up the upper eyelid to assess)
  • Are there other symptoms such as eye discharge (watery, slimy, yellowish, greenish), blinking, severe pinching, or itching?
  • Does the eye itself show further discoloration (blue or grey)?
  • Is vision impaired?
