Love Is… How Cats Show Affection

It loves me, it loves me not, it loves me…whether cats feel love for their humans or not isn’t always easy to tell as two-legged friends. From a human point of view, the velvet paws are rather reserved with their affection. However, there are a few small signs.

The way cats show love is usually different from how humans show love. However, if you notice the following behaviors in your cat, consider yourself lucky, because then she will feel comfortable with you.

Brainstorming

When cats want to show their sympathy, they often nudge your legs, face, or whatever else is convenient with their heads. By giving their heads, fur noses distribute pheromones and leave their scent mark. When your cat nudges you with its head, it means that the cat trusts you and feels that you belong to her.

Love Bite

Other clear signals that cats show their love with are so-called love bites. Your cat will bite your fingers or toes very lightly out of affection, so it doesn’t hurt, just pinches and tickles a little.

Cleaning

If your velvet paw tries to clean you and snuggle on you, that is also a token of love. You can feel honored: your cat sees you as part of your family.

Milk Kick

An unmistakable sign: the ” milk step “. This is a holdover from childhood. Kittens kick their mother’s tummy with their paws to get more milk out. So when your cat kneads you and purrs, she feels as comfortable and safe with you as she does with her cat mom.

Showing off Your Tummy

If your cat stretches out its belly towards you, it trusts you completely. The reason is: Cats are rather defensive. As a rule, they do not show people their most vulnerable spot, their abdomen. Even better if it is. Because it is proof that the velvet paw feels safe, protected, and loved.

Rubbing Against the Legs

If your cat doesn’t get enough of you, not only will she follow you everywhere, but she’ll also rub her legs to interpret her scent. Another surefire sign of your cat’s affection.

Gifts

Whether dead mice or dead birds, the gifts aren’t always pretty, but your velvet paw will show you that she likes you.

Cats Show Love Through Closeness

Once cats have taken a person into their hearts, they usually like to be around them. That also depends on the cat’s personality, as some cats are naturally more reserved than others.

So where an affectionate, cuddly cat follows you everywhere, nuzzling between your legs and jumping onto your lap for a cuddle as soon as you sit down, a reserved, shy kitty is content to doze peacefully in the same room as you.

However, if your cat is normally reserved and suddenly seeks your closeness noticeably often, or if your otherwise cuddly cat suddenly seems shy, something may be wrong. Notice if it appears to be in pain or if it has a poor appetite. If so, going to the vet is recommended.
