Household Tips for Dogs in Autumn & Winter

Every season is more fun together with dogs – even when it gets cold outside and cozy inside. To ensure that it stays that way there, a few things should be observed in the house and apartment.

Let’s face it – the days when dogs lived in their huts in the garden are history. At least most. And that’s good. Because they are pack animals and want to participate in social life. Of course, living together should be and remain comfortable even in the cold season.

Keep Floors Clean

Not infrequently, the four-legged friend runs through the mud and thus straight through the apartment door. Carpeted floors are less of an advantage than those that are easy to vacuum and wipe. Because in addition to mud and the like, it is also the dog hair that can be annoying at times. If you don’t want it on the sofa, the dog is not allowed on it – or you can protect it with a protective blanket. Or you vacuum the seating sets regularly.

Caution is advised in winter with road salt, which can get into the dog’s stomach by licking it off. A lukewarm paw bath after the walk helps to remove stones, road salt, and ice from the paws.

Warm Places

Short-haired, hairless dogs or those without an undercoat especially appreciate warm places in the house. Radiators often create dust, but not so with underfloor heating, infrared heating panels, and the like, which also provide natural heat from below. Good for maybe wet four-legged friends to prevent rheumatism or kidney problems. In addition, ventilation is of great importance for the room climate, whereby the sleeping place should never be in a draught.

Flea Season

Along with the heating season comes flea season. Since the larvae move away from the light into the depths of the ground and pupate there, another flea infestation can occur weeks or months later. If there is such a problem, not only does the four-legged friend have to be treated, but the apartment must also be vacuumed thoroughly and, last but not least, the dog’s favorite places must be carefully washed.
