Grapefruits are a plant species. It is a particularly large citrus fruit. The name grapefruit probably comes from the Tamil language in India, it means “big lemon”. The name came to Europe in other languages via Portuguese and Dutch.
In German, the Pamplemousse is often also called grapefruit. The grapefruit is actually a cross between a grapefruit and an orange. Grapefruits are more acidic. The grapefruit is more bitter but eaten much more often.
The grapefruit tree can grow up to ten meters high and has white flowers. The fruit itself has thick skin and can grow up to a foot tall. Their flesh is white to pink.
