Attention! This Is How Cats Get Their Way

When it comes to demanding attention, cats are masters. Whether it’s a long meow concert, gentle nudges, or jumping on the desk – the velvet paws know that their humans can’t resist them.

Usually, cats want attention because they are hungry, playing, want to go outside, or because they want to be cuddled. However, if your house tiger behaves unusually, for example, if it is aggressive, suddenly very shy, or shows other changes in behavior, it is better to have this clarified by the veterinarian. However, the following signs from the cat language repertoire are usually nothing to worry about.

When Cats Bother You at Work…

Cats don’t like it at all when you disturb them in their daily activities – napping, eating, cleaning. But that doesn’t mean that they also leave their favorite people alone in their everyday activities. Especially if you sit at your desk and actually want to work, it’s not that easy with cats in the house. Whoops, a cat has already jumped onto the desk and lies down in front of the keyboard in such a way that you can no longer type. Or it tries to “help” you and dabs on the keys herself with fluffy paws.

However, cats not only enjoy being a nuisance at work when they want to get your attention. As soon as you’ve made yourself comfortable on the sofa with a newspaper or a book, it won’t be long before your cuddly pout jumps onto your lap and wants to cuddle. Or she just lies down on the page you were about to read. But actually, this behavior is so cute and lovable that you can’t be mad at the furry friends – and they seem to know that very well.

“Meow! Attention! Now!”

Another way to get your attention is by the cat’s “meow”. Small kittens communicate with their mothers by meowing, but adult cats usually only meow at people. If you know your kitty well, you know how its different meows sound and whether it is hungry, wants to go outside or play, or is in a cuddly mood.

Playful House Tigers Want Attention

When cats think it’s time for playtime, they usually communicate it quite clearly. Some socialites simply get their toys and place them in their favorite person’s lap or at their feet. Other cats get their wild five minutes and dash all over the house. Or they just start playing with their human on their own, for example by hiding and slapping the legs with paws as soon as you pass them. It gets a little painful when cats are in the mood to play while their human playmate is in bed. It can happen that you bite your toes, which are hidden under the covers.

There’s Another Way

If cats want attention, they can become very inventive and are ready for all sorts of outrages. For example, they jump onto the kitchen counter or the table, although they are not allowed to do so. They throw objects on the floor or knock over glasses. They might also climb up your leg, stare at you for hours, play the alarm clock at night, or unwind the toilet paper roll.
