7 Tips If You are Going to Start Cycling With the Dog

Do you want to give your dog better condition without having to run as fast and as long? Start cycling with the dog. But take it easy and read our tips before you set off.

Get Started and Start Cycling With Your Dog

Cycling is great! And it provides very good exercise, both for the dog and the owner. Cycling, for example, is a common way for hunters to get their hunting dogs in shape. These must be able to withstand long passes in the forest. But all dogs need their exercise, and it’s fun to vary.

Do you want to start cycling with your dog? Here are some good tips to make it fun and enjoyable for both of you:

If you intend to have the dog tethered while cycling, start by leading the bike while walking. Always with the dog on the right side of the bike.

Rest the dog thoroughly before you start riding the bike. Get the dog used to the fact that the bike means “work”, that the dog has a task when you pick up the bike.

Be sure to communicate with the dog in the beginning, control it correctly at all times. Reasonable distance from the bike and as much at the same height as possible.

The next step is to get a “dog holder” for the bike. Here are different brands to choose from. Try your hand at a holder that suits you and your way of cycling. A common problem is that you can hit the foot in the holder. You benefit from trying it out, instead of buying “unseen” on the internet.

When you attach the dog’s leash to the holder (which has some form of cushioning), you reverse the training and lead the bike a short distance the first time, longer the second, and so on.

When it’s time to cycle, do the same. Start as simple as possible and praise the dog’s progress.

After a period of training, it’s done. The dog knows what applies and you can start cycling for real. Do not forget to always rest the dog before the physio session begins.
