14+ Things Only Great Pyrenees Owners Will Understand

The Pyrenean Mountain Dog is a calm, well-mannered, serious dog known for its strong family loyalty, including good behavior towards children. These dogs are generally trustworthy, affectionate, and gentle, but if the need arises, they do not hesitate to protect their family and their territory.

The Pyrenean Mountain Dog was bred to self-guard sheep in the mountain valleys, so they are relatively independent in nature. This independence makes obedience training more difficult compared to other breeds. The same roots of the guard dog left their mark in the form of an instinct to bark.

The Pyrenean Mountain Dog matures at the age of one year, but it can take up to two years to mature.
