#7 Get used to other people
Expose your dog to several people in a protected space (large room, fenced yard). Everyone carries treats with them, but your Golden Retriever will only get them if he's not barking and is exhibiting desired, calm demeanor. By the way: Remember to deduct all the treats from your dog's daily food ration, otherwise you will end up with a well-behaved but much too fat dog.
#8 Teach your golden retriever to listen to your commands
If you haven't spent a lot of time training your golden retriever, you should do so as soon as possible. With regular exercise, you can train your golden retriever to listen to your commands. It also gives you more control over him when he misbehaves.
#9 Avoid reinforcing negative behavior
Make sure your golden retriever doesn't get anything when he barks. For example, don't give him a treat or toy if he barks at you or at others. He will ask you to do something to test his standing as a boss. You don't jump when he asks you to do anything. Wait until he's quiet before he gets anything he wants.
