The Basset Hound has a domed skull with a prominent occipital bone. The stop is moderately pronounced; the bridge of the nose runs approximately parallel to the skull line. The skin on the head is loose and tends to wrinkle slightly on the cheeks and forehead. The lips are close fitting and the muzzle should not appear pointed. The eyes are diamond-shaped and dark in colour, showing a calm and serious expression. The ears are set low and reach in length slightly past the tip of the muzzle. They are supple and have a velvety texture. The Basset Hound has a long, muscular neck that is well arched with a dewlap that is not excessively pronounced.
