For their love of comfort and soft couches in England, Basset Hounds were dubbed “couch athletes.”
The literal translation of the breed’s name is a low hound.
Basset hounds have a sonorous, deep voice, which they readily use in the absence of the owner. Accordingly, if you live in an apartment and will often leave the dog alone with his own thoughts, its howls can seriously damage your reputation in the eyes of neighbors.
The breed is distinguished by remarkable intelligence, combined with moderate stubbornness, which makes its representatives into loyal, but not the most accommodating pets.
