The Basset Hound has a broad, straight back and slightly arched loins. The chest is deep but should allow enough freedom of movement. The tail is long with a strong base. It is carried upright in a slight arch. The Basset Hound has short, powerful forelegs with sloping shoulder blades and close-fitting elbows. The hind legs are very muscular and appear almost spherical when viewed from behind. The hocks are low, the knees are well bent. Slight wrinkling is possible on the barrels.
