10 Beauceron Pictures to Brighten Your Day

#7 The Beauceron’s coat is short, thick and close-fitting, the undercoat is also short, fine and downy.

The trousers and the lower part of the tail are usually slightly fringed and longer than the rest of the coat. There are also two approved color variants: black and tan (jet black coat with reddish streaks) and harlequin (blue-gray mottled coat with reddish streaks). It is easy to care for and does not shed excessively.

#8 In general, the Beaceron enjoys good health and is considered a hardy and weatherproof dog with no breed-specific medical conditions.

He can live to be a good 10-14 years, quite a lifespan for a large dog. The only criticism is that the FCI breed standard still prescribes the double dewclaw, although this does not bring the dog any advantage.

#9 … has not one, but two dewclaws?

The dewclaw or wolf's claw in dogs is the name given to the first toe, which in many animals is still on the inside of the hind legs but has no contact with the ground. Compared to human anatomy, these are the evolutionary remains of the big toe. The Beauceron (and also the Berger de Brie) has two dewclaws instead of just one, which is also required in the breed standard.
