The idea of associating a cat’s coat color with their personality is not a new one. A study by the University of California (UC) School of Veterinary Medicine has scientifically explored this exciting topic for the first time. In fact, surveys of cat owners have shown that tricolor cats are said to have a particularly complex character and react aggressively more often than other velvet paws. Further scientific studies on this topic are still lacking. Of course, every velvet paw is unique and has its own mind, but experience shows that a certain coat color often also has certain character traits.
Tabby Cats
Tabby cats enjoy being solitary. They prefer to roam around alone in nature – looking for crazy adventures. Cats with this coat pattern are often described as fearless, curious, and open. It is not uncommon for tabby cats to throw themselves into risky situations because of this.
Black And White Cats
Black and white cats are considered to be particularly active intelligent beasts. They need to be kept busy and are amazingly skilled hunters. However, they do need a certain amount of time to develop a close bond with their human. But once you’ve won the heart of a black and white cat, you’ve definitely made a loyal friend for life.
Tricolor Cats
The so-called lucky cats are said to have a very complex and multi-layered character. The tri-colored or tortoiseshell-colored cats are very playful, but at the same time, they are particularly irritable and bitchy, according to a study by the University of California. By the way: Almost all cats with this coat pattern are female.
Red Cats
There are quite a few myths and claims about cats with red fur. These curious cats are said to be particularly playful and, above all, greedy. Their extraordinarily sociable disposition suits us humans in particular: they always want to be close to their owner. There is also a striking gender difference in red cats: around 80% of them are male.
Black Cats
In the Middle Ages, black cats were considered companions of witches. To this day, they are sometimes still seen as harbingers of disaster. Many associates the dark animals with a wild and unpredictable character. The black cat is rather suspicious and shy towards strangers, but she enjoys the closeness of her caregiver to the fullest.
Gray Cats
If you are looking for a persistent play partner, a gray cat is a right choice. Due to her curiosity, she can quickly be encouraged to play a game – and then she is completely in her element. But be careful: Gray cats often show aggressive play behavior. They also like being in the fresh air: they love to strut around their territory.
White Cats
White cats look particularly elegant and graceful. They tend to be particularly affectionate and need a lot of attention and affection from their owner. A cat with this coat color is also often balanced and usually behaves calmly.
Brown Cats
As the owner of a chocolate cat, you are particularly challenged: Due to their high urge to play and their intelligence, these brown beauties need a lot of activity and attention. They also like to speak up: Brown cats meow a lot.
Point Cats
Cats with this coat pattern are particularly affectionate. Their nature is said to be very similar to that of dogs: for example, they have the least problems walking on a leash. However, if you like it quiet, you should be careful: Point cats can get very loud.
