Is Your Dog Hurt? Here’s How To Properly Care For The Wound

A dog’s bleeding paw is not actually life-threatening, but improper treatment can make it much worse than it was in the beginning.

This can happen quickly when walking in the woods or in the field: the dog steps on broken glass or a sharp-edged can opener. If possible, rinse the wound with clean water as soon as possible, removing stones and splinters.

Then the paw must be thoroughly dried and the cut must be sprinkled with iodine.

Very Important: Padding Between the Toes

After that, the gap is closed with a clean piece of gauze. Now for the most important thing that no pet owner knows: Before applying the bandage, a cotton pad must be placed between the toes.

According to the expert, if the owner of the dog forgets about this pad, within a very short time, severe inflammation can occur between the toes. And these inflammations often heal very poorly – and therefore are often more dangerous than the original injury.

How you wind the bandage around your foot is really of secondary importance. The dressing should never be too tight and thus cut off the blood supply.

In case of doubt, as always: it is best to consult a veterinarian.
