There is only one Chihuahua breed. Breed standard no. 218 of the “Federation Cynologique Internationale” (short: FCI) regulates what this should look like and what character traits these dogs possess.
Within the standard, however, two variants of the Chihuahua are named:
- shorthair
- longhair
However, the different coat is the only feature that distinguishes these two varieties. Otherwise, both are the same in all respects.
