Do Dogs and Cats are Natural Archenemies?

Dogs and cats just don’t get along? Wrong thought. Even if the saying “fight like dog and cat” is still very common, this does not mean that the two four-legged friends tussle like tinkers in real life.

The biggest misunderstandings that can arise when dogs and cats live together have their origin in the different body languages of the animals:

For example, while dogs wag their tails when they are excited, in the case of cats, this body movement means the complete opposite.

So that the animals can enjoy an uncomplicated togetherness, they are ideally brought together when they are young. In this way, both learn to interpret the behavior of the other independently of their own previous experiences.

Dogs and cats are land predators but are not closely related. For a single wolf (including the domestic dog), the cat is part of the prey scheme and therefore triggers the hunting instinct. Beset by the dog, the cat will defend its life.
