Cats & Their Sleep: 5 Things That Disturb Their Rest

Cats like to sleep, cats sleep a lot. A velvet paw can easily spend 15 or more hours a day sleeping, dozing, and snoozing. But the fur noses actually need the rest too. You should therefore avoid the following five things that disturb your rest.

Don’t wake sleeping dogs, goes the old and true saying. This rule can also be applied to cats. And as a cat owner, you should do everything else to ensure that the kitty can sleep well. A lack of sleep not only has a negative effect on your mood, but also on your cat‘s health over time.

Noise

Cats can sleep with noise, but it’s not as restful as a quiet bedtime. The animals cannot really switch off when there is noise around them. When your cat is restless, it constantly anticipates imminent danger and remains alert to be on the safe side.

Bad Cat Sleeping Place

Cats usually choose their sleeping places themselves and then choose the one they like best. But not always the best place is good enough. Provide your furry friend with a place to sleep that is soft, warm, quiet, and protected from drafts. On the other hand, an uncomfortable, cold, noisy, and draughty place disturbs the cat’s sleep.

No Possibility of Retreat

A good place to sleep is one thing. But the most comfortable cat bed is of no use if it is in a room where the kitty cannot rest. It is difficult to dream peacefully, especially in the hallway or where people are constantly walking back and forth.

A quiet room is a better choice. Cats feel safe there. But the place of retreat is only one if you recognize it as such. That means: The cookie is and will remain reserved for the cat.

Stress & Anxiety

Stress and restlessness have a negative effect on the sleep of every living being. Cats are sensitive animals that take negative vibrations, such as arguments between owners, with them to sleep. Harmony and calm, on the other hand, have a positive effect on sleep.

Annoying People

If the cat withdraws and wants to doze or sleep, its owners should always accept that. Nothing bothers a resting fur nose more than annoying people who don’t want to let them sleep.

That’s why you shouldn’t just pet a sleeping cat, no matter how cute it looks. It is important to resist the urge and leave the velvet paw alone when she is sleeping.

Tip: Explain to children in particular that cats need their sleep and should not be woken up, even if the little ones are boring. If you accept the need for rest and only play and cuddle with the cat when it wakes up on its own, both sides benefit more.
