Can a Chihuahua Swim?

Yes. A Chihuahua can certainly swim. Whether he likes to do it, however, remains to be seen. There are four-legged friends who love the cool water and those who only go as far as they can stand. Of course, there are also plenty of specimens that don’t even dip a paw in the water.

Observe your Chihuahua when it first tries to swim and make sure that it can keep its head above water and that paddling with its legs is strong enough and provides enough buoyancy.

Avoid flowing water, as the Chihuahua’s smaller size and lightweight make it easier to carry it away. If in doubt, it is better to use a life jacket for dogs to make it easier for the four-legged friend to have fun in the water and to ensure more safety.

Because Chihuahuas have sensitive eyes, seawater could irritate them. The same applies to chlorine water. Please always dry the dog’s ears well after swimming.

Important:
Don’t force your dog to go into the water. If he does it voluntarily, just be happy about it.
