Pampa is the name given to a certain type of landscape that is known in South America. More specifically, it’s about western Argentina, Uruguay, and a little corner of Brazil.
The name comes from an indigenous language, Quechua. It means something like plain or flat land. The area is often called with the word in the plural, i.e. pampas.
The landscape is a natural grassland in the subtropics. The climate is warm and humid. On the fertile pastures, people mainly keep cattle. However, part of the Pampa is now farmland.
Otherwise, other animals live in the pampa. Larger ungulates include the pampas deer and the guanaco, a type of llama. The world’s largest rodent, the Capybara, or capybara, is related to the guinea pig.
