Due to its short hair, the pointer does not require much grooming. Regular brushing is enough. If the pointer does get dirty with dirt or mud, most of it will go away on its own once it dries.
However, it is important to have the pointer checked regularly. Especially the lop ears, because the climate there is warm and humid, where fungi and bacteria quickly accumulate.
Diet plays an important role in the health of the pointer. There should only be high-quality dog food that contains a lot of animal proteins.
The main component of the feed should be meat. It should also be at the top of the list of ingredients. It is also important that no unnecessary additives such as grain are included. These are not properly digested by the pointer.
In addition to the feed, the correct portion size is also important. Because the pointer tends to be overweight quickly if there is not enough movement.
Activities with the pointer
As a hunting dog, the pointer has a very strong need for exercise and activity. It is therefore particularly suitable for people who do a lot of sport. Here are a few ideas for possible activities:
- Jog;
- To go biking;
- Ride;
- Hike;
- Dog sports (e.g. mantrailing);
- Training (e.g. rescue dog).
