The English Setter is an athletic and very intelligent breed of dog. In the past, as now, he is used as a pointer in the hunt, so he has a strong hunting instinct in his blood. Nevertheless, he can also be kept as a friendly family dog.

#1 The English Setter’s ancestors most likely include Spanish Pointers, Water Spaniels, and Springer Spaniels.
