In any case, have your cat thoroughly checked by the vet if you suspect rheumatism. Once his diagnosis confirms the condition, he will prescribe medication for the animal. As a rule, these are painkillers, which at the same time inhibit inflammation. The preparations often contain cortisone. In any case, it is important that you give your cat with rheumatism the medicine regularly – and not just on the days with the most pain – so that the cycle of inflammation in the joints is broken.

In addition to pain management, your cat’s doctor may also prescribe a treatment with nutrients that support the joints. These can be omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, for example, but also antioxidants such as vitamin E.
You should also make sure that your cat loses weight if it is overweight. A slight movement is also good for your velvet paw, but without overloading the joints. There is also the option of feline physical therapy – check with your veterinarian about what might best help your pet.
