Caring for Cats With a Cold at Home
If your cat with a cold is outdoors, it should stay indoors for a few days so that the cold symptoms do not get worse. In the house, she needs a warm, draft-free place where she can rest and sleep as much as possible. A place near the heater is ideal.
If your house tiger’s eyes are tearing, you can now and then carefully wipe off the liquid with a soft, damp cloth. Also, make sure your pet is drinking enough. Always provide him with fresh water and cat milk can also be used in-between as a little secret weapon so that your pet gets enough liquid. Under no circumstances should you give your cat any medication without first consulting a veterinarian.
Treatment at the Vet
In severe cases of cold, you should definitely leave the treatment to the veterinarian. This applies, for example, if your cat has a fever, its cold symptoms do not go away after three days, or the tears and runny nose are not clear but whitish or yellowish.
The vet will first examine whether your cat’s symptoms are due to a harmless cold or an illness such as cat flu, which has similar symptoms. Then he will start with the drug treatment and explain how you should proceed with the care of your four-legged friend at home.
