Miniature Pinscher – Smart Dwarf & a Master of Dog Tricks

The Miniature Pinscher, or “Mini Pin”, is indeed a small but by no means unpretentious companion. Instead of a city apartment and a handbag, the baby prefers a large garden, long walks, and work on her head and nose. If you don’t have housing and training problems, you will be rewarded with an alert, active, and loyal four-legged friend who will be with you!

Smart Miniature Pinschers

The Miniature Pinscher, which weighs only 4 kilograms on average, is one of the oldest hunting dog breeds in Germany. Its ancestors have been used to hunt rats since the 16th century and were considered fearless, lively guard dogs and stable dogs. In recent decades, the “Mini Pin” has become smaller and smaller and is now one of the dwarf dog breeds. His character has not changed much.

Nature of the Miniature Pinscher

The Miniature Pinscher is a highly intelligent, confident little dog full of energy and a love of movement. It brings a lot of courage, self-confidence, and vigilance. The breed has long been listed with terriers because they have a similar nature: Miniature Pinschers are constantly under pressure, quickly get bored and then look for an alternative occupation. Chewing on furniture and shoes is as typical as intensive digging in the garden. Many Miniature Pinschers love to bark and use their organ to communicate, while playing, or to protest being left alone.

You really need to earn the Miniature Pinscher’s loyalty, but then you can count on a very close bond.

Upbringing & Maintenance of the Miniature Pinscher

Miniature Pinschers are always on the move. No sound goes unheard or unregistered. Therefore, this breed is not very suitable for keeping in a small city apartment with a lot of neighbors. It is better for gnomes to live in a house with a garden in a quiet place. Make the fence really “small dog-proof” because otherwise, the smart Miniature Pinscher will use every crevice to get away.

Extreme caution is required when meeting other dogs. The sassy dwarf is so self-confident that he does not take into account his size when it comes to unfamiliar dogs. Whether it’s play or stress, the risk of injury is very high!

The special nature of the Miniature Pinscher and its small size makes its training even more important. However, the Min Pins have little desire to please and are experts at “selective listening”. The easiest way to train is to take advantage of their intelligence: these dogs love to solve problems and receive compliments. Search games, dog tricks, and plenty of exercises are the recipe for a busy and relaxed Miniature Pinscher.

Miniature Pinscher Care

The short and strong coat of the Miniature Pinscher is very easy to care for. It is enough to clean and check the ears, eyes, teeth, and claws from time to time.

Miniature Pinscher Features

Due to their small size, the risk of injury is higher than in other breeds. During the first year of life, the Miniature Pinscher should not climb stairs, jump off the couch, or play with larger dogs.

The most common conditions include patella luxation (patellar prolapse), vision problems, and metabolic disorders. With proper care, diet and exercise, Miniature Pinschers can live up to 15 years.
