Miniature Pinscher Dog Breed Information

This strong and lively little dog has a characteristic jumping gait and has recently become very popular in the USA. From 1900 he was completely unknown outside of Germany. He almost looks like a miniature Doberman. However, this is not surprising when you know that the pinscher also plays a role in the breeding of the Doberman.

Appearance

A square-built dog with a deep chest, straight back, and tucked up abdomen. Its slender, narrow head ends in a well-proportioned snout. The eyes are medium-sized, slightly oval, and black.

The ears must be very small, set high, and cropped to a point or falling forward. The coat consists of short, smooth, and shiny hairs colored black, blue, or chocolate brown with tan markings, or various shades of reddish-brown. The high set, powerful tail is carried merrily, but mostly docked.

Care

The rough-haired coat should be “plucked” from time to time (trimming salon), under no circumstances should the dog be clipped, because the coat quality would suffer over the years. Excess hair between the balls of the feet must be cut, and the “hairstyle” should also be cared for regularly (i.e. sideburns and mustache as well as very long eyebrows) so that no burrs develop here.

The ear canals should also be checked regularly and any protruding hair should be removed.

Temperament

Alert, intelligent, and loyal, this breed displays admirable courage despite its small size. It is excellent as a companion and guard dog, as well as for hunting rats. Their gait is unique as these dogs almost always walk at a trot. In addition, there is a lively nature and a fighting spirit.

Upbringing

Despite its miniature format, the Miniature Pinscher needs an owner who will raise the dog honestly, straightforwardly, and consistently. Schnauzers are quick and clever learners, but they often have their own ideas about following commands. Varied exercises alternating with games are usually helpful.

Compatibility

In general, Miniature Pinschers get along well with other pets or children. They are a bit more reserved towards strangers, every visit is announced very loudly.

Area of life

An ideal dog for the apartment because of its small body size and short coat.

Movement

A Miniature Schnauzer has an incredible amount of energy. They find excursions into nature just as wonderful as romping in the garden. They should be allowed outside as often as possible.

Story

Before the Miniature Pinscher was recognized as a separate breed, a medium-sized Pinscher was widespread in Germany and Scandinavia. The Miniature Pinscher finally came about through breeding selection. In 1895 the German Pinscher Club (which became the Pinscher Schnauzer Club) was founded in Germany.

Greater interest in the Miniature Pinscher, however, only arose in the early 20th century. It achieved its great popularity in the 1920s when this breed became known in the USA. In 1929 the Miniature Pinscher Club of America was founded there. In recent years, the increasing popularity of this dwarf dog can be observed.
