Poodle – Dog of All Sizes & Colors

When we think of the Poodle, many people think of the well-groomed, noble companion dog that roams the genteel boutiques alongside owners. Although such Poodles exist and are in fact four-legged friends, they seem to be especially noble and light-footed in their gait – the original Poodle was a hunting dog, which was probably related to French Water Dogs.

Four-legged friends with curly hair were mainly used to extract shot game or birds from the water. However, where exactly the Poodle came from when it first appeared, or in what country its origin lies: none of this is documented and therefore no longer clearly verifiable.

  • Colors: black, white, brown, gray, apricot, red-brown.

Poodle Comes in Different Sizes

It is only from the 19th century, when the breeding of Poodles really began, that the path of this dog breed can be traced. At that time, there were originally only two sizes: a large and a small Poodle. The variety of colors was also limited to black, white, and brown. Later came the Miniature Poodle and, in the smallest variety, the Toy Poodle, with a height of 28 centimeters.

Today, the Poodle comes in four different sizes. In addition, there is a huge variety of colors and many possible applications. Because while some dogs show off their wild, unstyled locks and simply joyfully race along the agility course, others sit with a perfectly styled lion’s mane and traditional haircuts at dog shows and beauty contests.

In any case: due to its noble and sublime appearance, intelligence, endurance, and agility, as well as friendly and easily controlled character, the Poodle is cooler than any other dog.

Activity

But whether it’s a fashionable companion dog or a family dog: Poodles are very active and make high demands on mental and physical fitness. The only exception to this is, in part – due to their size – the Toy and Miniature Poodles. However, even small dogs want to exercise for several hours a day.

Since four-legged friends are always hungry for exercise and mental stimulation, dog sports are very good for keeping them busy.

Otherwise, biking or running tours and, of course, trips to the lake also make the Poodle happy. Because this breed was originally intended to splash in the water (or get prey out of it), this is still felt in many animals.

Features of the Breed

As already mentioned, the Poodle is very intelligent and capable of learning, so it is well suited for a wide variety of dog sports. In addition, he not only looks good and is a sports Poodle: the Poodle is also friendly, loyal, and gentle. Hence, a loving companion who is loyal to his people and gladly follows them.

Recommendations

With all these skills and qualities, it’s no surprise that the Poodle suits a wide variety of people. Among other things, it is a popular family dog, a valuable companion for active people who want to play sports with their four-legged friends.

Smaller Poodles in particular, which have somewhat less demanding physical requirements, are also suitable for calmer individuals. Long walks should be planned with each Poodle.

Since the Poodle is considered to be easy to train, it is also recommended for novice dog owners due to its friendly nature. Of course, part of this is being thoroughly informed about the respective breed and its requirements.
