In the 1950s, dogs were almost wiped out in China, a few Shar-Pei managed to survive in Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong In 1971, Matgo Law, a Hong Kong breeder, wrote to an American magazine asking for help in preserving the critically endangered Shar-Pei.
