10 Particularly Cozy Dog Breeds

Not all dogs are born jocks. Some breeds are like it a little more leisurely. There is (almost) nothing they like better than dozing and eating in peace and quiet. We introduce them.

Do you love just spending an afternoon relaxing on the sofa instead of doing challenging sports sessions with your four-legged friend? Then check out these ten super comfy dog breeds that are ideal for couch potatoes.

Comfortable dog breeds: four-legged friends with little urge to move

There are breeds that are extremely active and want to be kept busy throughout the day. The Border Collie, for example, is one of them. And also the greyhound. (You can find out here why it can’t sit properly.) And those who can hardly wait to take a nap soon. These rather sleepy and easy-going breeds tend to have less exercise than their peers.

Of course, that doesn’t mean they don’t need exercise and don’t enjoy walks. However, they are not as active and do not have to walk for hours over hill and dale to keep busy. Instead, a moderate walk around the house is enough for the comfortable fur noses, where they can sniff, sniff and look in peace.

Incidentally, it does not necessarily matter whether the dog breeds are particularly small. There are impressively large dogs that are of the “snug kind” as well as there are little bundles of energy.

French Bulldogs – frugal “loafers”

French bulldogs are real “smooches”. They are perfect companion dogs with a friendly and good-natured nature. At the same time, the Bullys like to adapt to the living conditions of their owners.

Since they weren’t bred for any special tasks, the four-legged friends like it comfortable. They neither want to climb dozens of flights of stairs every day nor do high-performance sports. French bulldogs are therefore more satisfied with extensive cuddles on the sofa at home.

Yorkshire Terrier – the “lazy Yorkie”

The “Yorkies” have a lot of self-confidence and act cheeky and playful. Nevertheless, the small four-legged friends make few demands on their home environment. Due to their short legs, Yorkshire Terriers are not naturally suited to long bike rides or jogging companions. Instead, the animals like to make themselves really comfortable and doze off in peace. Proof of this is the countless “lazy Yorkie” videos on YouTube, which show the cute snub noses taking a nap.

Chihuahua – short legs, little need for exercise

Petite Chihuahuas are among the world’s smallest dog breeds. At the same time, they love to be cuddled and are therefore particularly suitable as a particularly affectionate, child-loving dog breed for families. Because easy-care Chihuahuas don’t need much exercise and tire quickly, they’re a good match for less active dog owners. But beware: As soon as a Chihuahua gets out of breath, spoiled specimens almost insist on being carried around.

Pugs – Companion dogs with limited space requirements

The pug is considered a loyal, affectionate dog with little space requirements. Since he is anything but a jock, just getting outside every day is enough for him. The people-oriented beginner dogs don’t like to go jogging or long bike rides. But the four-legged friend prefers to make himself comfortable on your lap. But watch out: the little pug is notorious for snoring due to overbreeding.

Shar Pei – anything but active

The Shar Pei is an ancient breed of dog originally from southern China. The Shar Pei is genetically related to the gray wolf. However, he did not necessarily inherit his agility and joy of movement. On the contrary: the calm and relaxed family dog only needs a little exercise during the day. However, this does not mean that it is necessarily suitable for beginners.

Although Shar Pei doesn’t need much exercise, he has a stubborn and self-confident nature. The dog, which shows a great protective instinct, likes to take the lead. Consequently, only self-confident people who are not too yielding and who can cope with animal stubbornness are suitable for upbringing.

Great Dane – calm and majestic

Despite their weight and classification among the giant breeds, Great Danes are not necessarily suitable candidates for hours of endurance sports. Even constant climbing of stairs causes problems for loving and well-balanced dogs with vulnerable joints. The big dogs feel more at home in single-story living spaces, preferably close to their people. The family dogs feel really good anyway when they are resting on the sofa at home with their loved ones.

Shih Tzu – Favorite spot: on your lap

Appropriately, the undemanding Shi Tzu was originally bred to serve as lap dogs for Chinese emperors. The dogs have lost none of their coziness to this day: they still love to make themselves really comfortable on the lap of their favorite person. Of course, the four-legged friend needs some exercise, but not in excess. It doesn’t always have to be long walks. So you can stay a little longer on a rainy day without a guilty conscience – because the Shih Tzu likes to lie around relaxed for hours.

Pekingese – Dog with a “comfortable” past

In times past, the Pekingese were a welcome guest in the imperial palace. In China, people tended to coddle the little dog extensively. Has that made him a little more comfortable? In fact, the animal companion is completely satisfied with little exercise and keeping it indoors. Of course, like his peers, he is happy about several walks a day. Apart from that, the fur nose makes friends with a comfortable way of life.
