The schnauzer fur needs to be trimmed or clipped two to three times a year, depending on the hair type. You can either learn this yourself in courses offered by the breed club or have it done in a grooming salon that has experience with the breed. The lush beard must be cleaned after every meal and combed regularly, otherwise, it will become matted.
Schnauzers (all breeds) appear to be generally prone to tumors. Black medium and giant schnauzers in particular have an above-average frequency of malignant tumors on the toes. Many female Giant Schnauzers become urinary incontinent after spaying. The intervention should therefore be carefully considered in this breed.
