The most important vaccinations for the Chihuahua are:
- parvovirus
- rabies
- distemper
- HCC
- leptospirosis
If possible, all domestic dogs should be vaccinated against these dangerous infectious diseases, because an illness is often fatal or has serious long-term consequences.
Breeders also know about the importance of vaccinations, which is why they start the basic immunization of Chihuahua puppies before they are handed over to the new owner. After all, puppies still have an immature immune system and are therefore quite vulnerable to diseases. If an infection occurs, they usually have no chance and succumb to the disease. The same applies to old and immunocompromised animals.
For this reason, once the basic immunization has been successfully completed, the subsequent refresher appointments should always be adhered to conscientiously.
There are a number of other vaccinations that the veterinarian will only recommend after assessing the benefits and risks. For example, if you live in an area, particularly at risk for ticks or if you want to breed with your dog.
