Breed origins and history
The Ardennes horse, also known as the Ardennais, is a breed that originated in the Ardennes region of Belgium, France, and Luxembourg. They were used for a variety of tasks, including farming, hauling logs, and serving in the military. Today, the Ardennes is still a popular breed in Europe, although its numbers have declined in recent years.
The Percheron, on the other hand, was developed in the Perche region of France. Like the Ardennes, they were used for agricultural work, as well as transportation and military purposes. They were brought to North America in the 19th century and quickly became a popular choice for farming and hauling heavy loads. Today, the Percheron is still widely used in agriculture and is also found in the show ring and as a carriage horse.
