A look at the most frequently used names for cats and tomcats in 2021 shows: There are old acquaintances, but also two great newcomers!

Well, what’s your cat’s name? Does she have a rather unusual name like “Mr. Schmidt”, “Lisa Lausezahn” or “Gertrud”? Or did you opt for something more common, but by no means worse?

There are many beautiful cat names and of course, there are also names for tomcats that have a great sound. Some of them are particularly popular and appear again and again on the leaderboards.

The most popular cat names of 2021

When it comes to female cats, there is no change at the top: Luna is and remains the absolute number one among the most popular cat names. This name was already in the top position in 2019 and 2020. 2018, 2017, and 2016 weren’t bad either: Luna was the second most popular name for cats.

Nala follows in second place in 2021. She pushed Lilly/Lilli down one place. The other ranks are followed by Lucy, Mia, Mimi, Maja, Bella, and Mila. They were all among the top 10 last year.

But there is also a newcomer: Frieda is in 10th place for the first time, displacing the name Molly, which was still there in 2020.

The most popular hangover names in 2021

After 2019 and 2020, Simba is again at the top of the most popular names for male cats in 2021.

As in the previous year, Leo, Charly, Balu, and Findus follow in the other places. Sammy and Felix are swapping places in 2021.

A sonorous newcomer can be found in 8th place: Loki has made himself comfortable here and ranks even better than the two names Max and Tiger, which also appear in the best list year after year.
