The First Aquarium: Diving Into Aquaristics

With an aquarium, you dive into a fascinating underwater world and get to know the animal world with its exciting characteristics. However, with animals comes responsibility. In addition to feeding, regular care is particularly important in an aquarium so that the inhabitants can maintain their natural habitat. The purchase of the first aquarium should therefore be carefully planned and thought through.

Setting up an Aquarium for Beginners

We give beginners assistance in setting up their first aquarium. What size should the aquarium be? What is included in the basic equipment? What should be considered when filling in culture medium, decorative elements, water, and fish? A domestic freshwater aquarium soothes the soul and is both fascinating and chic at the same time. Getting it set up isn’t that difficult.

The Right Location: a Shady Spot

Before going to the pet shop, there are important questions to be answered at home. For example, looking for a suitable place for the pool, which should serve as a new home for the water dwellers. It should be in the shade since direct sunlight promotes algae growth and as quiet as possible – preferably in a corner of the room. This allows the fish to retreat to a protected area if necessary.

Remember: Small Does Not Equal Simple

An aquarium needs a stable substructure because water is very heavy. It is best to buy a suitable aquarium base cabinet together with the aquarium. There are models that are already installed on a suitable construction.

Important to know: A small aquarium is no easier to maintain than a large one. On the contrary: the larger the water volume, the more stable the ecosystem and the easier it is for the mini biotope to regulate itself.

If there is enough space, the aquarium for beginners should therefore be chosen larger. For the start, especially if you plan to stockfish, you should choose at least a 54-liter aquarium.

Technology and Care of Aquariums – You Should Know That

Regardless of the size, the technical equipment is basically always the same: filters, heating elements (not for cold water aquariums), thermometer, and lighting are necessary. If you are new to the aquarium, you can purchase the aquarium and the necessary accessories with an aquarium starter set. A timer is not absolutely necessary, but very practical. This automatically regulates the lighting in the aquarium and adapts it to the time of day. It is best to set up and maintain the technology together with your children. For example, a partial water change (about a third of the water volume) should be scheduled every two weeks.
