The cliche of the “crazy cat woman” known from series like “The Simpsons” or “How I Met Your Mother” is unjustified. Because the so-called “crazy cat lady” doesn’t exist. Researchers at the University of California have come to this conclusion.
How does society actually define a “crazy cat lady”? A “crazy cat woman” is characterized by her bizarre nature. She mostly lives alone and has at least 2 cats.
For their study, published in the journal Royal Society Open Science journal, the University of California scientists analyzed 561 cat owners, including 111 men, in more detail.
Scientists Refute Stereotypes
In their approach, the researchers examined whether there was a connection between pet ownership and the mental and physical health of the test subjects. The researchers also got to the bottom of the cliché of the “crazy cat woman”.
The result: “We found no evidence for the Catwoman stereotype: cat owners are no different from other pet owners.” This would refute the stereotype of the “crazy cat lady” once and for all.
